Soul Tracks

Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway met as undergrads while attending Howard University. Years later, the duo, who happened to be label mates at Atlantic Records, joined forces and recorded the album, Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway. The smooth sophisticated soul of Roberta and the gospel drenched unfiltered intensity Donny Hathaway possessed proved to be musical perfection. The album, released in 1972, quickly went gold and garnered the duo a Grammy award,'Where Is The Love' won for Best Pop Vocal by a Duo. Donny's irresistible interpretation of 'For All We Know' is included on the album along with the legendary 'You've Got A Friend' and the R&B and jazz flavored 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling.' Donny & Roberta contributed their their own distinctive social consciousness to the soul movement in the form of the militant 'Be Real Black For Me,' in which Roberta and Donny both attest to the beauty of blackness, from lips that are "warm and luscious" to hair that is "soft and crinkly" to a body that is "strong and stately."
