Every now and then I came across the music of a soul singer I've never heard of. We are all familiar with the music of Aretha, Donny, Gladys & The Pips, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, --to name a few. There are plenty of soul singers who made incredible music but never reached the upper echelons of soul music, the list includes singers such as Erma Franklin, Esther Phillips, William Bell, Fontella Bass, and Judy Clay. O.V Wright is another soul singer who never gained the fame and recognition he deserved. I discovered the music of O.V Wright at The B Side. The Tennessee native recorded a string of albums for Back Beat Records and Hi Records. O.V Wright possessed a powerful, raw, and emotional soul drenched voice and was the epitome of Southern gut bucket soul. Sit back and enjoy this slice of Southern Soul with O.V Wright's 'Motherless Child.'
