Throwback to the '60's
Somehow this slipped under my soul radar. In early May, Raphael Saadiq held a listening party at Sony Club in NYC for his upcoming vintage soul album. The as-yet-untitled album was inspired by Saadiq's love of that old school Motown sound. In an effort to capture that old school 60's vibe, Saadiq recorded on vintage guitars, drum kits, and mics. Motown legend Stevie Wonder is featured on one track playing his trademark harmonica. "You couldn't help but feel like you had snuck into the den during one of your parents’ ‘grown-ups only’ parties" said blogger Candace L. "All that was missing were some elk antlers hanging on the wood panels." If anyone can capture the spirit and soul of Marvin, Stevie, Smokey, and the rest of the Motown fam, it's Raphael Saadiq. As of now, there is no word on a release date.
