Soul Fixin'

Son Of Pain I was listening to Governor's album Son Of Pain the other day. He has practically fallen off the soul map. The name may or may not sound familiar. Son of Pain was released back in '06 on T.I's Grand Hustle label. The album is an enjoyable blend of soul and hip hop, a mix of raw emotional vocals, intelligent lyrics and the style and vocabulary of a modern day R&B singer. The highlight of the album is the Governor's emotional voice, a voice that immediately and with ease translates his love, lust, pain, trials and tribulations. Influenced by the likes of Curtis Mayfield and Sam Cooke Governor's career has been full of promising opportunities gone awry. Recordings with Dr. Dre, Wyclef, Trackmasters, and 50 Cent all went unreleased. Governor was able to get a deal with the independent label Warlock Records and released his debut, Another State of Mind, in 2000. Years later, he was introduced to T.I and the rest is history...sorta. Son of Pain is one of the most slept on albums of the past few years. Take a listen and you'll understand why.
